The Queen says the Princess of Wales "will be thrilled" after receiving posters from well-wishers during a visit to Shrewsbury.

The royal made the comments on a visit to a farmers' market as she met two young girls who made signs for Kate following her cancer announcement.

After being handed the signs, the Queen was heard saying: "I shall send this off to Catherine. She will be thrilled."

To the second young girl, she says: "And your one? There we are. I know she'll be very thrilled. [I'll] make sure she knows it comes from you. Thank you very, very much".

It follows the Princess of Wales revealing in a video statement on Friday that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

She said she and Prince William had been doing everything they could to "process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family".

Buckingham Palace announced in February that the King had been diagnosed after a "separate issue of concern was noted" during treatment for his benign prostate condition.

Despite the King carrying out low-key official duties behind palace walls, the Queen has had to attend many recent engagements alone.

On Wednesday, Camilla greeted stall owners and members of the public as she toured food, artisan, jewellery and craft stalls at the farmers' market.

She then moved to the Old Market Hall where she signed the visitor's book - previously signed by Queen Elizabeth II in 1952.

The King will, however, attend the Easter Mattins Service at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on Easter Sunday, the palace announced on Tuesday.
